I strongly recommend Flawed Dogs, by Berkeley Breathed. It is packed full of small jokes and has amazingly comical but realistic pictures. It is about a pampered and flawless Dachshund named Sam the Lion who lives happily with his owner, Heidy, until disaster strikes. That disaster is called Cassius, a poodle. He makes it look like Sam took the baby, and Sam is hit by Uncle Hamish's rifle. This is all because of Cassius and the fact that Sam looked very, very, sick.
